It sure has rained a lot in the last week. I’m starting to grow fins. Last Saturday we had a session scheduled that absolutely DEPENDED on it NOT raining. We had scheduled the session a couple of months ago and all but 2 of the 12 people were coming from out of town. Some from WAY out of town. This group gets the award for furthest traveled with 2 coming from Canada and 6 having traveled from Scotland. Yep, THE Scotland. We had the ONE day with one chance to get family portraits and wouldn’t you know it a hurricane decides to vacation here. Welcome to Texas and our crazy weather.

It ended up fine, I’m sure due to my pleading prayers for the rain to stop for just long enough to shoot this session. We did get one small downpour, but we were safely under shelter by then. It was humid and it was crowded, but this fun family had a great time together anyway.

Thanks guys, y’all were a blast and really good sports! We enjoyed hanging out with you. 🙂

Last week I got to participate in our church’s VBS.  For the last 5 years I have been the official photographer for VBS.  I document the week and make a slideshow to show at the Wednesday night wrap up service.  Some years I look forward to it more than others, but this year was one of my favorites!

It’s so easy to get busy with work, kids, schedules and LIFE that sometimes as adults we forget was is really important.  Capturing photos of children singing and praying and being joyful in the Lord really put things into perspective for me last week.  It reminded me of what I am REALLY doing here on this earth and that I need to slow down and make time for myself to be joyful in the Lord.

Here is the slideshow of the week.  See if it doesn’t put you in a better frame of mind too.

Matthew 18:3:
3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.

This is hard to actually put into words, because the answer can be almost anything on any given day.  Sometimes creativity just strikes.  There are a few specific places we like to go, however, when the need for inspiration strikes.

Before I get into this I first have to tell you about my new favorite store.  Anyone who knows me knows the one thing that makes my heart begin to pitter-pat and my toes start to twinkle is anything vintage.  If it looks like it’s from a decade past I will probably love it.  So, while Saylor and I were in Fredricksburg recently we went into the most fabulous store ever.  My head nearly exploded from excitement.  I couldn’t look at everything fast enough.  Serious vintage overload.  I may have to move in.   And be still my heart…..they have a BLOG!   Check it out: www.redinfred.com

So where else do we look for inspiration?  Besides a slew (yes, I just used the word slew) of blogs and my newest obsession Weddinggawker.com these are our favorite brands to look to for inspiration:

Cindy

  1. Anthropologie-need I even explain?
  2. Sprinkles cupcakes-seriously, a store that ONLY sales cupcakes.  Heaven.
  3. Lucky Brand Jeans–I’m obsessed with the tags on their jewelry.
  4. Lush Handmade Cosmetics
  5. BeneFit Cosmetics–such clever packaging

Saylor

  1. The Buckle–he has a mind obsession with their shirts
  2. Don’t Tread on Me–check out their cool style
  3. Magpul–yes, they make gun parts, but check out their AWESOME photos!
  4. Lucky Brand Jeans
  5. Levi’s (vintage brand)

The labels, packaging, style and photos used by these companies are serious inspiration for us.  What inspires you?

WOW!  Our wedding couples this year are adventurous!  We love it.  When Meredith and Cutter told me they wanted to do their engagement photos in camo and with their hunting stuff I about jumped out of my seat with excitement!  It was seriously SO fun!  I am so in love with the photos on the dirt road.  Work it Meredith! RAWR!!!  The images in cameo are also some of my favorites EVER!  Hot pink heels, cameo and guns…….just a regular day in the life of a photographer.

I once had a friend tell me that my life looks like one never ending E-Harmony commercial and I LIKE it that way. 😉
