I rescued this photo from a thrift store.  It was in a shoebox of hundreds of other old photos, but this one spoke to me.  There is no date, names or location written on the back.  There is no indication of who, where or when the photo was taken.  If I wanted to research it there are no clues as to where to begin.  This was probably once a cherished photo, but now it is forgotten.  That makes me sad.  I’m sure that the great-great granddaughter of this couple would give anything to have this photo of her great-great grandparents wedding day.  I know I would give anything to have a photo from my great-great grandparent’s wedding!

Photographs may not mean much to you in the moment, but years down the road they become priceless heirlooms.

If you don’t recount your family history, it will be lost. Honor your own stories and tell them too. The tales may not seem very important, but they are what binds families and makes each of us who we are. ~Madeleine L’Engle

Since I have had this photo in my possession it’s been on my mind.  In my subconscious.  It was the inspiration for this photo. A future heirloom………………

I almost cried on this one.You are awesome ! I am trying to write something on all my photos, but wish I could put a story to them as well.

Monday is an important day of the week.  It’s a good day for new beginnings…..Don’t most people start a new diet (or renew their commitment to dieting) on Monday?  I know technically Sunday is the first day of the week, but to me it really feels like the perfect, relaxing, winding down END to a week.  Monday is the real beginning.  So, I thought Monday would be the perfect day to introduce some new things here on the blog:

1. A new feature called Monday Musings. This is a weekly feature on the blog where I will share what Saylor and I daydream about. Look forward to it. 🙂

2. A new obsession of mine: Pinterest.com If you haven’t discovered this fabulous website you absolutely MUST check it out!  Pinterest allows you to browse through images by category and create inspiration boards by “pinning” your favorite images. You can search and gawk and ogle gorgeous images until your eyes bleed and your head explodes and you won’t be able to stop.  It’s perfection!

So, recently we’ve been daydreaming a lot about remodeling our kitchen.  I’ve used Pinterest to collect images and put together an inspiration board entitled “The Kitchen of My Dreams”  Here are some of the images I’ve pinned to my board. Can’t you envision this fabulous rustic chic kitchen?  It will be mine someday………….

    Don’t forget your Mondays !

This week Mia had an assignment for school.  She was required to bring a baby photo and a photo of herself now.  It wasn’t easy choosing a baby photo that wouldn’t embarrass her in front of her classmates. No naked photos and no diaper photos Mom!  Well, what Mia doesn’t remember is that is was almost impossible to keep a diaper on her much less clothing. LOL!  I found one, that I think my mom actually took, in my favorite striped pjs.  It’s so funny to try to remember Mia like this.  I barely can.  It’s like this time period was a million years ago in a different lifetime.  The first two years of Mia’s life were pretty much a blur.  Thank goodness I have photos to remind me of what happened. 🙂

Anyway, back to the assignment.  The class is going to discuss what they were like THEN (in the baby photo) and what they are like NOW (in their recent photo.  I love this concept and thought it would be fun to share what life was like for ME then and now.  I know you’re excited.  Here goes:

[full-image]P I N this to pinterest[/full-image]

THEN:

  • *I was a stay at home mom.  That’s it.  I didn’t do anything else.  How did I fill my days?  I KNOW it wasn’t cleaning the house! LOL.
  • *I got up 2-3 times a night with Mia.  She didn’t sleep through the night consistently until 15 months!
  • *My hair was short…and blond. 😉
  • *Saylor and I shared one computer.
  • *I was just beginning my photography business.  JUST starting!
  • *I hated working out.  I didn’t do it EVER.
  • *My thyroid was out of control and I napped several times a day just to survive

NOW:

  • *I’m a full time work from home mom.  I still don’t clean the house, but now it’s because I don’t have the time.
  • *I got up with Mia last night when she had a bad dream.  On the bright side, she doesn’t need us to tuck her in anymore. She puts herself to bed.
  • *My hair is long and RED!!!  Think I’ll stick with this for awhile.
  • *If you count all the iPhones, iPad etc. We now own 6 ways to access the internet……and facebook.  We like the internet.
  • *Our photography business just celebrated it’s 5 birthday AND we just lauched a new website and brand.  Couldn’t be more excited about this.  A blog post about it all coming soon….
  • *I still don’t love to work out, but I do LOVE step class.  I go to the gym 3-4 times a week.
  • *My thyroid is mostly under control and I only nap on Sundays. 😉

The best thing about NOW is that Mia is old enough to remember this time in her life.  She is so much fun right now! The photo on the left was Mia right before a trip with her Daisy troop.  The photo on the right was taken in February when we missed 4 days of school for snow.

    Isn’t life wonderful !

  • Cindy

    Absolutely!!! 🙂

Alright, are you seated for this?  I couldn’t narrow the sneak peek down anymore than this and there are a ton of photos in this post.  Believe it not, this is just the beginning.  I guess that’s what happens when you have 10 hours with a bridal party of 24 and a really fun bride and groom.  Tons of great photos are bound to be the outcome. 🙂

There are so many things I loved about Courtney and Taylor’s wedding day, but I’ll begin with some of the details.  Again, with those beautiful shoes!  Courtney’s bouquet by Allison Welch at  The Elegant Petal was amazing and it weighed a ton!

Courtney’s gift to her bridesmaid’s were a pair of gold glittery Tom’s. They were so cute and looked great with their purple dresses!

The next photo of one of Courtney’s bridesmaids watching her get her dress laced up may be my favorite of the WHOLE day.

Courtney and Taylor did a first look and I’m SO glad they did.  We got all their portrait done before the ceremony and it gave them a chance to exchange their gifts to each other, which were pretty fabulous by the way.

If you want to know what Taylor’s gift was from Courtney you’ll have to ask him.  I think he was PRETTY HAPPY about it. 😉

This wedding was one I have especially been looking forward to because of the military aspect of it.  Taylor is a pilot in the Navy and most of the groomsmen and ushers were also in either the Navy or Marines.  Since, my brother is in the Navy and Saylor is a former Marine this was a special wedding for us to shoot.  I have to admit there is just something about the uniforms that makes this photo even better!  This group was so fun and they are really like one big family.  It was awesome to see just how happy and supportive of the bride and groom they were.

Okay, so you know those movies you watch over and over and over again.  Well, Top Gun was one of those movies for me.  My favorite part was when they sang “You’ve lost that loving feeling.”  That’s EVERYONE’s favorite part.  Well, the guys serenaded Courtney with the same song at the reception.  It was awesome!

The only thing I DON’T love about bridal sessions is I have to keep them under wraps until after the wedding.  Torture!  Courtney and Taylor got married on a GORGEOUS day last weekend at The Milestone in Denton so I can finally share her bridal portraits.  I’ve been dying to share these images of Courtney’s bridal session and I definitely think it was worth the wait!  This was one of my favorite bridal sessions ever.  Probably because Courtney and her mom are so much fun, but also because LOOK at those fabulous shoes. I mean SERIOUSLY!  They are amazing!

I love the classic, old hollywood vibe of Courtney’s dress.  Especially in this next image.  By the way if you are a bride still looking for a venue you absolutely MUST check out The Milestone.  It’s perfect and the staff is amazing!  We love shooting there!
