One of our favorite wedding resources (blog and print), Southern Weddings, has founded a society based on some beliefs that we hold near and dear.  The dearest belief being that “there is nothing on this earth more important than FAMILY.”  Also, that a wedding isn’t  just about one beautiful, picture perfect day.  It’s about (as stated below) honoring history and heritage and “planning a deeply meaningful beginning to married life.” There are many things about being a 5th generation Texan that I am proud are a part of my history and heritage, and coming from a long line of successful marriages tops the list.

Our deepest wish for each of our wedding clients is that they are able to celebrate the beginning of married life surrounded by family, friends and that it is deeply meaningful and that we are able to capture that meaning for them in photos to be passed down to the generations that follow.  Sweet-Tea-Society_600P I N this to pinterest

Oh, I’m SOOOOO excited to share this session.  These two are gorgeous!  I mean it was almost impossible to take a bad photo of them.  I’m not even joking!

We had such an amazing time with Sally and Derek at Arbor Hills in Plano on Saturday getting to know them and taking some engagement photos.  The lovely couple will be tying the knot on September 20, just one day before Saylor and I celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary.  Can’t think of a better couple to start celebrating that very special weekend with.  🙂

One of my favorite things about an engagement session is that it gives us the chance to get to know our clients and hear their story.  One of the coolest things I found out while chatting with Rachel is that the Mustang that they brought along to the session has belonged to DJ since high school and that it is a big part of their history.  Actually, their story is very similar to Saylor and I in that they were friends for a while, reconnected after some time and then began dating.  She said it was one of the reasons that made her call us.  I just LOVE that!!  Connections.  Similar things that we can find in others and their relationships that give us a special connection.  It’s why I love talking with people and why I ask so many annoying questions.  I’m not nosy (well, maybe just a little bit) but just that I’m searching for what will connect us.  Thanks for sharing with us Rachel and DJ!  We can’t wait until your wedding in November. 🙂

Digital photography is awesome!  I love it.  The instant access to photos is nothing short of a miracle in my eyes.  Don’t even get me started on the wonders of Instagram!!  The only sad thing is that the intangibility of digital photos.  You took the photo, you downloaded the photo, you Facebooked, Tweeted and Instagramed the photo, but then what?  Sure, your legions of followers commented and “liked” it, but what about your children and while we’re at it, WHAT about your grandchildren and your GREAT GRANDCHILDREN?  How will they ever get to see those photos?  If your photos only exist in the digital realm and you never actually print them you have taken away from your descendents the chance at one of my favorite activities, discovering a treasure.  Oh, you don’t know what I’m talking about?  You know, you’re going through a box from grandma’s garage and you come across a photo of your grandmother as a baby and on the back is penned (in your Great-grandmother’s handwriting) “Sally–8 months old, 1932”   GASP, you have found a treasure.  Bonus treasure if she looks exactly like your own child.  THAT is powerful stuff as far as I’m concerned.

So, now you know my motivation behind why I do what I do.  Photos. They connect us with the past AND the future. Of course, only if you print them, and put them in an album or frame them or hang them as artwork in your home.

We get it. We know it’s overwhelming.  What size? Where should I display it? A photo wall? What do you mean, Cropping?  AHHHHHHH, I’ll just do it tomorrow.  So, we have removed this obstacle for our clients.  We come to your home and show you the possibilities and take away the confusion.  Easy peasy!  I’d love to share with you what we created recently for a client………

The Folkes family.  This lovely couple was wed a few years ago and they didn’t have any wedding photos taken as they tied the knot at the justice of the peace.  I think they definitely deserved to have an heirloom photo for their home, don’t you?!  We discussed a couple of different options and these were their favorite mockups:

The finished product installed in their home by yours truly.

It’s always thrilling to receive complements on our work.  However, I begin to think that it doesn’t matter what I do my MOM is always going to have nice things to say. 😉 Love you mom!! What can I say? She’s proud of me and I love her for it!!  However, there is whole different kind of excitement when our work is met with approval by others in the wedding/photography industry.  I am SO proud and excited to share some of the places we have been featured recently.

First up, is perhaps the MOST exciting!  One of our images was chosen for a cover of The Texas Wedding Guide.  It is a bit surreal to see a photo I took on the cover of a magazine that is for sale at Barnes and Noble!  Seriously, I wish I could send a copy to my college photography teacher.  She would be happy because it’s not of a person and her advice to me was that I needed to take less photos of people. ?????? Whatever, that meant.  Apparently, she was not aware of the importance of photos as heirlooms or that documenting the lives of people was just as important (more so) than landscapes, but WHAT-EVER.  LOL!  Back to the topic at hand.

We were also blessed to have Lesli and Brett’s wedding story featured in this issue.  Make sure to pick up a copy or ask me, I have plenty!!

Next, we had an image in the V5 5th anniversary issue of Southern Weddings.  This is my personal favorite wedding mag and it was a huge goal of mine to have an image included in this magazine at some point.  I’m VERY excited about this one. 😉  Yes, that is the same gorgeous bouquet as above.  Thanks Torin for having such fabulous taste!  By the way, her bouquet was from Market Street which proves that you don’t have to spend a lot to have beautiful flowers for your wedding.
